Re: What is thriving on your high street?
2 local high streets to me. Off the top of my head...

3 pubs
Several newsagents/mini supermarkets
Kebab shops
Multiple Chippies
Chinese take aways
2 family greasy spoon type cafes
2 Bookies
2 High street banks
A Butchers
Sunbed shops
3+ Hairdressers/nail places
3-4 Barbers (Turkish and "local")
An Argos
2 big chain supermarkets
A personal training studio
2 post offices
Pet shop
+ many more.

And all this in a working class suburb of Liverpool, with several other bigger high streets nearby.

"The death of the high street" is a total myth.

Craft Beer as told by Stewart Lee

'And the pretend folksy names and fake artisanal packaging of these bottled beers conspires to give the functioning 45-year-old alcoholic the impression that he's not a functioning alcoholic, but is instead some kind of a connoisseur of beer, cutting a valuable exploratory swathe through an uncharted wilderness of 7-8% proof alcohol."

Craft beer is just beer. More styles. More strengths. Different tastes. There are 900 new breweries in the country.

Re: What is thriving on your high street?
The craft beer thing is becoming over-saturated now...

It was a nice novelty at first and some are very good at what they do but like everything else there are a fair few charlatans and chancers out there.

Many are starting to sell out to the big brewers already which is a bit hypocritical considering they originally sold themselves as independent free spirits fighting corporatism.

Plus in the winter nobody wants to drink beer in a freezing cold railway arch or industrial estate.

Hippy capitalism - yuck

Branded I see you live in a hipster area much like me.

I’ll add bubble teas, juices and cbd stuff to the list. I was thinking of just opening a fruit and veg stall with and emphasis on AVACADOES

Re: What is thriving on your high street?
There are also a lot of high streets which have shops which were not originally purpose-built.

There are lots of Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian housing stock which was extended out front to accommodate retail.

In future, I suspect that the trend for these will be to convert back to residential and restore a front garden or parking space.

There will be less shop units left but this means there will be more demand for them so probably the level of presentation will also improve.

Less is more and it will raise the quality...more space for pavements/cycling and genuine cafe culture where there is space to ensure you are not practically sitting in the bus lane drinking a coffee.

Rents are far too high but they will fall - eventually.
